More than light

Smart Lighting is a heterogeneous lighting technology area, integrating among others sensor and control technology, as well as information & communication technology, which leads to higher efficiencies and a lower CO2 footprint in the use of electrical energy, in combination with enhanced functionalities and interfaces of lighting in ambient, commercial and public domain.

Smart lighting enables lighting functions to become dynamic (in wavelengths and intensity), interactive (control), and adaptive (demand), i.e. to become more intelligent. The lighting value chain will be further extended by integrating all options of natural light and digital lighting solutions that respect the biology of human beings, and which make better and more efficient use of the combined functionalities and interfaces offered.

Human-centric lighting

Benefits of biologically efficient lighting include improved sleep/wake cycle, daily changes in alertness, performance and mood (circadian changes) as well as responses to seasonal changes.
